Virtualizing the Imaging Process

This may only serve as a guide to keep me on track. I have setup a virtual XP machine using Hyper-V on Server 2008 RC2 (very nice process). Next, the plan is to create an ISO for WinPE and boot from the ISO in the virtual machine. From here, I should be able to capture an image of the virtual XP machine and push it to a network client using WDS.

Fingers crossed… sleep lost.

Wow, that’s nerdy.

  1. Thanks for the link. For now, I think sticking with Microsoft’s tools will work well for us. Getting DHCP configured for PXE boot would have to be someone else’s headache and I don’t know if I can appease them enough. Of course the trouble is, Microsoft likes to release useful tools and then stop supporting them six months later.
